One problem that many people run into when it comes to eating properly is that they follow to many different programs. Although it is a good idea to have a program in mind whenever you start eating for health, being too drastic or jumping from program to program is not going to help you at all.

Unfortunately many people tend to cut something out of their diet which the body needs. It is difficult to estimate how many people have damaged their metabolisms as a result of yo-yo dieting through low carbohydrate or low-fat eating.

If you really want to control your weight, it is difficult to beat the benefits that you receive from eating a low glycemic diet. The way that you would do this is actually fairly simple to understand. The glycemic index is a list of foods that are arranged according to how quickly the sugar that is in them is released into our system. The higher on the list the food resides, the faster the sugar is going to be dumped. This can cause our pancreas to overload us with insulin, something that is going to end up storing fat on your body.

By eating a healthy diet that includes five to six small meals on a daily basis, you can really get your metabolism running at top speed. Make sure that you include a protein, legume and plenty of low glycemic vegetables at every meal, preferably raw. If you eat like this for two weeks you will be able to see the difference in your clothing and whenever you stand on the scale. It is an easy way to get fit without doing exercise.

Well, start with small steps. It’s important to at least get some physical activity in your life.

Walk the dog – or just walk around your neighborhood.

Take the steps & not the elevator

Do sit-ups and push-ups while you are watching TV tonight.

Make an exercise plan for next week – and write it on your calendar.

Just taking these small steps might get you going. At the very least it will give you some exercise.

Colorectal cancer screening does save lives. The sad news is too many people who are at risk for colorectal cancer are not being screened according to national guidelines.

It is estimated that as many as 60% of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented if all men and women aged 50 years or older were screened routinely. 60%! And all it takes is regular screening.

Colorectal cancer almost always develops from precancerous polyps (abnormal growths) in the colon or rectum. Screening tests can find precancerous polyps, so that they can be removed before they turn into cancer. Screening tests can also find colorectal cancer early enough so that treatment will work best.

Some studies have shown that increased physical activity and maintaining a healthy weight may decrease the risk for colorectal cancer. Evidence is less clear about other ways to prevent colorectal cancer.

At the moment, there is no consensus on the role of diet in preventing colorectal cancer; however, medical experts recommend a diet low in animal fats and high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grain products to reduce the risk of other chronic diseases, such as coronary artery disease and diabetes.

Researchers are also examining the role of certain medications and supplements, including aspirin, calcium, vitamin D, and selenium, play in preventing colorectal cancer. While these supplements may reduce the risk of colorectal cancer, the most effective way to reduce your risk is by having regular colorectal cancer screening tests beginning at age 50.

You should begin screening for colorectal cancer soon after turning 50; then continue getting screened at regular intervals. However, you may need to be tested earlier or more often than other people if:

• You or a close relative have had colorectal polyps or colorectal cancer

• You have inflammatory bowel disease.

I have to admit I am as surprised as anybody to hear a big butt may actually be a healthy thing. There is evidence that this may help prevent type 2 diabetes.

To quote “New research, published in the journal Cell Metabolism, suggests the fat responsible for producing the pear shape flaunted by celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce may be active in protecting women from diseases by releasing certain hormones.”

researchers from the Harvard Medical School found Buttock and hip fat may protect women against type 2 diabetes, from which more than 1.7 million Australians now suffer. This is obviously going to be good news for many women however —

Researcher Dr Ronald Kahn insists that not all fat is bad for health.

“The surprising thing was that it wasn’t where the fat was located, it was the kind of fat that was the most important variable” he said.

“Even more surprising, it wasn’t that abdominal fat was exerting negative effects but that subcutaneous fat was producing a good effect.”

“I think it’s an important result because not only does it say that not all fat is bad, but I think it points to a special aspect of fat where we need to do more research.”

Don’t get carried away when reading this, however, and feel you can be overweight and not suffer any health effects. Being overweight can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure, and much more. So stay on the healthy side and try to maintain a healthy weight.

But it looks like you can possibly put aside worrying about having a huge butt.

Along with exercise, it’s important that you eat healthy and be sure to eat your three main meals each day. It’s also important that you eat small meals in between. You should eat at least three to four of them.

This will help your metabolism and also set you straight on getting enough nutrition in your body. Also, make sure that you don’t overeat during meals, whether they’re the main ones or the small ones. Even with the main meals, you should be cautious of your portions.

Don’t even think about engaging in one of those crazy diets. You may quickly lose the weight with a crash diet, but it will hurt you in the long run. Not only will it mess up your immune system, but when you go back to eating normally, you will gain the weight back quickly. It’s imperative that you eat meals that contain plenty of nutrients.

Eating smaller meals can help you to keep your blood sugar level stabilized. Try not to consume foods that contain a lot of sugar, sodium or saturated fats. For breakfast, you can eat carbohydrates. You can also incorporate fiber during breakfast. A good choice would be a bowl of oatmeal. Be sure to include protein for your muscles.

For dinner, eat some raw vegetables with your main meal. You can also do this if you are dining out. Having a salad provides you with plenty of fiber. Fiber is important for your body because it helps to regulate your digestive system. In addition to that, you will not feel so hungry because fiber is a filler.

Another no-no when you’re eating is binging. If you do that, you should stop right away. This eating disorder can have serious consequences if done constantly. Some of the food that you consume may not digest in your stomach properly. It sits dormant, and you increase your chance of developing colon cancer. You should learn to eat properly when you are young.

As you reach your twenties, your calcium intake should increase. Calcium is a key ingredient to prevent osteoporosis from occurring. Calcium helps to keep your bones healthy and strong.

Folic acid is another component to have in your system at a young adult age. Anything vegetable that is green and leafy is a good choice. Also, citrus fruits like oranges can provide you with plenty of folic acid. Make sure that you include other fresh fruits and vegetables in your eating plan. It’s essential that you have as many healthy foods as possible.

That sounds like a lot but really isn’t if you just make a few adjustments.

Breakfast, for instance, doesn’t have to be a hurried toaster tart on the way out the door. Put some frozen strawberries, 100% juice and yogurt into a blender and enjoy a delicious smoothie. I use frozen strawberries to thicken the mixture and make it nice and cold. If you use fresh strawberries or fruit, you will need to add some ice cubes to the mix.

You’ve just added one to three servings of fruits to your daily intake. Of course, you can add some berries into your cold or hot cereal as well.

You might consider a smoothie for lunch. Makes a delicious and filling meal and adds important antioxidants to your diet.

It’s sometime said that a little bit of stress is good for our well-being, and exercises our faculties. However too much stress can cause serious damage to our physical and mental health.

Laughter helps a person to see the lighter side of a problem and keeps the mind cool and calm. Fun means maintaining a balance in life, taking time out, keeping your sense of humor as you pace yourself and being entertained by the downs as well as the ups in life. Stress relief is not about escaping stress; it’s about keeping everything in perspective.

Stress is a by-product of the highly competitive environment in which we live, and stress relief, through recreation and laughter, helps you to relax and regain your balance.

Did you know that music reduces stress?

Music reduces stress. Remember that old phrase ’Music has charms to soothe the savage breast? It still has a place in today’s society. While the effect can be exaggerated, it’s still true that the right kind of music can help you shift your mood. Think about how a song influences you. Specific music choices provide specific music-sonic patterns, and with the support of proven breathing exercises, the music can actually alter your state of consciousness. This can bring about one of the best stress managementtechniques of all:

simple relaxation.

Meditation, yoga, massage, aromatherapy, and listening to music can all work together or by themselves to help you to dynamically relax. Listening to your favorite music while gardening can also enhance your relaxation experience. Both because of its memory associations with pleasant events and for reasons that are not yet well understood, music can almost immediately favorably alter your mood, and offers both short and long-term benefits in relieving stress.

Don’t under estimate the power of relaxation for lowering stress.

Developing the capacity to relax is at the foundation of any program undertaken to overcome any form of stress. The old saying, “stop and smell the flowers” is not that far off. Your body needs time to repair itself and taking time to rest and relax can do wonders for you, not only physically but mentally as well. Relaxation reduces stress and counters the tendency we have to overreact to common stressors with additional mental, emotional and physical stress. Sleepless nights and lack of energy can also be caused by stress and can exaggerate and magnify its effects. Finding ways to relax on a regular basis is very important to help lower your chance of developing serious stress related illness.

There is always some mold everywhere - in the air and on many surfaces. Molds have been on the Earth for millions of years. Mold grows where there is moisture.

Mold and Your Health

Exposure to damp and moldy environments may, and often does, cause a variety of health effects.

Some people are sensitive to molds. For these people, molds can cause nasal stuffiness, throat irritation, coughing or wheezing, eye irritation, or possibly skin irritation. People with mold allergies may have more severe reactions.

Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung illnesses, such as obstructive lung disease, may get serious infections in their lungs when they are exposed to mold. These people should stay away from areas that are likely to have mold, such as compost piles, cut grass, and wooded areas.

You Can Control Mold

Inside your home you can control mold growth by:

Keeping the humidity levels between 40% and 60%;

Immediately fixing leaky roofs, windows, and pipes;

Thoroughly cleaning and drying after any flooding;

Ventilating shower, laundry, and cooking areas.

If mold is growing in your home, you need to clean up the mold and fix the moisture problem. Mold growth can be removed from hard surfaces with commercial products, soap and water, or a bleach solution of no more than 1 cup of bleach in 1 gallon of water.

Mold growth often looks like spots, and can be many different colors, and smell musty. If you can see or smell mold, a health risk may be present. You do not need to know the type of mold growing in your home, and CDC does not recommend or perform routine sampling for molds. No matter what type of mold is present, you should remove it. Since the effect of mold on people can vary greatly, either because of the amount or type of mold, you can not rely on sampling and culturing in order to know your health risk are. Also, good sampling for mold can be expensive, and standards for judging what is and what is not an acceptable quantity of mold have not been set. The best practice is to remove the mold and work to prevent future growth.

If you choose to use bleach to clean up mold:

Never mix bleach with ammonia or other household cleaners. Mixing bleach with ammonia or other cleaning products will produce dangerous, toxic fumes.

Open windows and doors to provide fresh air and keep them open until the bleach odor is removed.

Wear non-porous gloves and be sure to use protective eye wear.

If the area to be cleaned is more than 10 square feet, consult the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guide titled Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings. Although focused on schools and commercial buildings, this document also applies to other building types. You can get it free by calling the EPA Indoor Air Quality Information Clearinghouse at (800) 438-4318, or by going to the EPA web site at http://www.epa.gov/mold/mold_remediation.html.

Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using bleach or any other cleaning product.
